Time for another in my occasional Sunday Snippets series. This is where I share what’s been happening in my world of genealogy. I’ve had a very busy week, deep diving into research, writing blog posts and reading some of the amazing family history stories that are published on Substack.
AtoZ Challenge
We are on the home run now. Tomorrow is X and then it’s just Y and Z, and we’re done. I will have a reflection post coming later next week.
Each year in the AtoZ Challenge, I’m conscious of not diving too deeply, or making posts sound too theoretical, as many readers during the challenge don’t have an interest in family history. April always presents a different type of reader to any other month during the year. Because of that I quite often use newspaper articles to demonstrate the point I am writing about. I’m always conflicted by that, but it seems to me the right thing to do.
Timeline Events
In the last couple of weeks I have watched two great Projectkin events about timelines. Each event showed a completely different timeline.
Projectkin
Barbara from Projectkin shared the interactive timeline that she used to share the story of the tour of America made by Marquis de Lafayette between 1824 and 1825. Click on the image below to see the recording of this event.
Kathy’s Corner
Kathy’s Corner is a monthly Projectkin event and is not to be missed, as she discusses identifying and archiving our family photos. This month Kathy spoke about using timelines to organise family photos. Click on the image below to see the recording of this event.
Carmel Galvin
At the same time, Carmel of Earlier Years posted about the way she uses timelines in her family history research. This gave another interesting perspective to using timelines.
ANZAC Day
There were various Substack posts about war time stories on ANZAC Day. Following are just a few of those posts. Check them out to help keep the memories of these family members alive. They gave their lives for us. Lest We Forget.
