Sunday Snippets August 24 2025
Time for another in the Sunday Snippets series. This is where I share what’s been happening during the past week, in my world of genealogy. I’ve had a busy week, deep diving into research, writing blog posts and reading some of the amazing family history stories that are published on Substack. I also have exciting news, coming soon.
I hope you enjoy the following stories that I read this week.
I’ve long been fascinated by the Irish experience of America in the 19th century, and have read many historical novels about this period. I enjoyed this look at researching Irish ancestors who made America their home.
Here Lynda tells a wonderful story about the females in her family.
Xanthe certainly has a story to tell here about a Nazi resister. I found the story fascinating, but also very sad.
Researching our families can be very troubling. I long ago realised that we have to look at our ancestors with a different lens than we would look at our family today. A very interesting piece of writing.
A very sad part of history that shouldn’t be forgotten.
We’ve all been down a few rabbit holes, right? Read about Barbara’s experience in reasearching the truth of her ancestors experience of the American Revolution for Stories250
This is a mystery that I would also love to know more about.
Where did you get your name from? I love a naming story, as I was named after a Hollywood actress.
This is a fascinating story about witch trials. It has everything.

Jennifer, Thanks for the mention. I appreciate it. And love reading your snippets every Sunday.
Thanks for mentioning my story and your comment. Yes, very sad but also somehow encouraging to know that Karl like thousands of others were ready to organise to resist fascism. Makes you wonder if people will be ready to step up today, when it is necessary.
