Time for another in my weekly Sunday Snippets series. This is where I share what’s been happening in my world of genealogy during the past week, both here on Substack and my research into my family history.
I had the period over Christmas/New Year plus the first week in January off from genealogy. I’m back now, refreshed and with plans for this newsletter in in 2025.
This weekend, I have been continuing to draft my posts for the Blogging April A to Z Challenge. I’m almost there, with only a few posts to complete, and all that is needed to plan images for each post.
As soon as that is finished, I will be continuing to add my family to Wikitree. I’m a Wikitree newbie, having only started late last year, after spending a few years just thinking about it. It took me a while to get my head around it but I’m quite excited to get back to it.
Genstack
I love Genstack Featured where Robin introduces what is coming up on the Genstack newsletter. This week, as If Only i by Ollie was introduced, Robin had beautiful words to say about the Californian fires. My heart also goes out to everyone affected. Ollie’s newsletter where he writes about his childhood memories is one that I love to read. However, Genstack Featured reminds me that I have a little catching up to do with Ollie’s story.
If you are a family historian who loves to read well written family stories, I’m sure you will love Genstack. Here you can catch up with all the best and well written stories, events, podcasts and videos, that have been published during the previous week. I have a permanent appointment with myself each weekend to catch up with this great publication.

Office Hours and Roundtable
This week was the first of the combined Office Hours and Roundtable discussions. I thought it worked really well to have them combined. After the Office Hours discussion we broke off into Break Out Rooms (which by the way I love) and discussed the tools we use in our family history research. I came away from that with the intention of looking into Notion for archiving my family documents. I have a couple of platforms in mind for this and need to make a decision, so I can get the process started. This was also the first session held at a time more convenient in the Pacific.

Mission Genealogy: Push and Pull of Platforms
I was very happy to be invited to be one of the guest speakers on this panel with Jane Chapman Jane and I both mentioned later that presenting was way, way out of our comfort zone, but I absolutely enjoyed the experience, as I’m sure did Jane.
Mission Genealogy Podcast
I always enjoy the podcasts presented by Mission Genealogy, and this episode where Robin Stewart interviewed Saphyre from Family Roots was no different. I have met Saphyre on the Mission Genealogy Zoom sessions, and she was very helpful to me when I was starting out with WikiTree, and was feeling very confused. It was lovely to listen to her speak on the podcast and learn more about her and her life of genealogy and telling family stories.
1921 Census
Big news this week is that the 1921 Census has been added to Ancestry, and became available this week. I haven’t had a chance to take a look yet, but it’s on my to-do list.
Gosh such a lot happened in the last week!. Thanks for summing it up for us.. It was a pleasure to share the 'push & pull of platforms' discussion with you.
Aw, thanks so much for the Sunday roundup, Jennifer! “The Push & Pull of Platforms” was a hoot. I'm looking forward to more programs like this. This week, Projectkin will feature the 2025 return of “Emma Explores” scheduled at ”Atlantic” time. (Register at Projectkin.org/events)
As for the Office Hours section on Substack Live features, as you might have seen with my Projectkin Live on Sunday here in the Americas or Monday in NZ/AU, it was a bit of a bust. I was able to demonstrate just exactly what it looks like when you attempt this outside of a strong network signal. Oh well. Stay tuned next week when I'll know to hold onto the signal.
Heh. I'm here to break it so you don't have to. 😉
