Pre-RootsTech Fun
The excitement of RootsTech is well and truly building, with many Projectkin and Geneabloggers pre-conference events having begun.
Relatives at RootsTech
I have loved reading Substack posts and notes about the number of Relatives at RootsTech people are finding they have. It’s a fun part of RootsTech. Every year, I have a low number of relatives, even though I have entered all branches into my tree, and have them going further back than I would usually bother about. This year, as of today I have 65 relatives, and have begun making contact, but haven’t heard back from anyone yet.
Below are just a few conversations that have been happening on Substack Live.
Bill Moore of Family History with Bill Moore and Kyla Bayang from Rootsquad Roundup have been doing a series of fun Relatives at RootsTech Substack Lives. Below is the latest.
Kyla invited me along to chat about RootsTech. Of course, I didn’t hesitate.
Famous Relatives
Famous Relatives is fun to check out, but I don’t take it too seriously. It seems I am related to American Presidents, Royalty, movie stars and on it goes. Following are some of my famous relatives. I really don’t know if there is any accuracy at all to them being my relatives.
King Charles 1 of England
Marie Antoinette
Queen Victoria
John Wayne
Winston Churchill
Franklin D. Roosevelt
Abraham Lincoln
Helen Keller
Queen Elizabeth II
Grace Keller
Lucille Ball
Ronald Regan
This week I chatted with Dear Myrtle as part of her Mini-Myrt Spotlight on Genealogists series. This was just a short chat but it was lovely to catch up and chat about my convict ancestors, and what I’m looking forward to seeing at RootsTech.
Projectkin and Geneabloggers are collaborating to bring all the fun and excitement of the RootsTech Ridealong.
There are still 12 days to go until RootsTech, so there is plenty of time for more RootsTech fun. Check the Ridealong page to keep up to date with everything that’s happening.

We're still not showing up as connected in Relatives at RootsTech. But we do share several famous relatives. One interesting historical note, my 10th grandfather, Sir Isaac Pennington (the elder) was a prominent Puritan who served as Lord Mayor of London in 1642 and Lieutenant of the Tower of London during the reign of your relative, Charles I. Isaac was one of the jurors who convicted Charles and sent him to his death, but Isaac would not sign the death warrant. When Charles II was restored to the throne, Isaac was tried for treason and sent to the Tower of London, where he died about a year later.
Isaac's son, Isaac the younger (my 9th ggf) became a well-known Quaker whose step-daughter was William Penn's first wife.
So, we're not related on that line. But have an important historical connection.
