What a remarkable story. I can't imagine an 85 day voyage.

Hi Jennifer - I had the Kyneton connection with you. On my other side (paternal side), my 2nd great grandfather James Sage was on the same ship! He was a convict from Suffolk. He was transported to Van Diemen’s Land (I am assuming it went there after Melbourne). He went on to become a respectable Station Master.

Well this is interesting Carole. I’m surprised that this ship brought convicts. Was it the 1948 voyage? I have more information about those ships so will check and let you know.

Yes I’m surprised too as there were so many ladies already on that ship! The numbers you gave would perhaps be a full ship I would have thought. It is 1848 according to his documents. I will try and research it also.

Sounds a very satisfactory voyage - only one death is good.

Just wondering Jennifer if everything worked out fairly well for your 2X Grandmother with whom she worked for and after marriage, family etc.?

They appear to have been well fed on the Lady Kennaway! Was that the case on other ships transporting girls in the Earl Grey scheme?
